It Turns Down the 'Fight-or-Flight' Response.
Your nervous system's alarm is fueled by stress chemicals like norepinephrine (adrenaline) and cortisol. When you're stuck in a state of high alert, these chemicals are constantly flooding your system, leaving you feeling exhausted and on edge. Havening helps to down-regulate the production of these stress chemicals, telling your body the emergency is finally over.
It Generates Restorative Delta Brain Waves.
The Havening Touch generates Delta waves in the brain - the same slow, restorative waves that occur during the deepest stages of sleep. It is during this state that your body focuses on repair and healing. By producing these waves while you are awake, we create a unique neurochemical state that allows old, encoded trauma to be accessed and neutralised.
It Washes the Brain with Calming Neurotransmitters.
While turning down the stress chemicals, Havening also promotes a sense of calm. The deep relaxation from the Delta waves is associated with an increase in calming neurotransmitters like GABA - the brain's primary "off switch." This creates the perfect internal environment to rewire old patterns.
It De-links the Memory from the Emotion.
The core of a traumatic memory is a set of receptors (called AMPA receptors) on your nerve cells that are "glued" in place by the original high-stress event. While your brain is in the safe, calm, Delta-wave state created by Havening, we can finally dissolve that glue. The enzyme that does this (calcineurin) is activated, essentially washing the receptors clean. The memory of the event may remain, but the painful emotional charge and the body's alarm response are permanently de-linked.

What if I don’t know the cause?
